Specialized Care for Children who have Experienced Trauma

Libby is a dedicated trauma therapist with specialized training and expertise in working with children and families who have experienced trauma. Areas of specialty include working with children who have experienced single-incident traumas, relational traumas, victims of abuse, and medical trauma(e.g., traumatic illness, injury, etc.). Libby also has extensive experience working with families whose children face end-of-life situations. She is an expert in working with children ages 4-11 and their families. In addition to her child/family expertise, she is highly adept in her work with parents who have experienced birth trauma or loss.

A Relational, Effective, and Systemic Approach to Healing

Libby’s clients can rely on her belief that children and parents are the experts in their lives. Viewing her role as a catalyst for greater connection, attachment, healing, and meaningful change, Libby approaches therapy through a relational, attachment, and family systems lens. As a Certified EMDR therapist and specialist in pediatric EMDR, she predominantly uses EMDR in her work with children and their families. Libby also relies on her training in synergetic play therapy, child-centered play therapy, and attachment training in her work with children and families.

Libby also holds her values and ethics as a clinical social worker in very high regard. Recognizing the impact systems and institutions can have on children and families, she advocates for her clients as they navigate these systems. Libby’s clients can rely on her belief that children and parents are the experts in their own lives and view her role as a catalyst for greater connection, attachment, healing, and meaningful change.

Passionate Advocate for Women

Libby is deeply attuned to the ongoing pressures women face in an ever-changing world. She believes in reproductive rights and understands the complex dynamics when a woman faces a difficult choice regarding pregnancy. This passion and empathy underlies Libby’s commitment to providing a safe, non-judgmental, and accepting environment.

Hear from Libby

Throughout my career, I have strived to join families on their healing paths and recognize with deep gratitude the privilege of doing this work.

There is nothing you or your child can tell me that will be “too much.” Throughout many years of working with children and families who have experienced trauma, it has always been my mission to create a space free of judgment, full of acceptance, and playfulness – attuning to the needs of the child in the room. I will meet you and your children where you are and help guide you from trauma and survival to thriving.

Parenting is not for the weary. Parenting during trauma recovery and healing is the most outstanding example of bravery. Every step of the way, I will work alongside your child and family, carving the path to new ways of thinking, behaving, and connecting. While the work is heavy, it is imperative to keep it playful for children, recognizing the importance of their developmental stages and the importance of humor and play.

In my work with adult survivors of trauma, I view my role very similarly as I do in my work with kids and families –  joining my clients on their path toward healing through EMDR and other somatic therapies.
