Grief and loss can be complex and perplexing. Typically, our society associates grief and loss with the death of a loved one, even though many other types of loss are often not taken into account. Loss can be physical, emotional, psychological, anticipated, symbolic, and imagined. Furthermore, it is common to grieve losses of oneself, such as grieving the loss of your imagined past or future relationship with your family. This can happen when you witness the deterioration or lack of change in a loved one during the holidays, for example.

Finding meaning in daily living, relationships, family, and life itself can feel impossible in the wake of loss. Often, people experiencing grief describe feeling sluggish, unmotivated, numb, dull, angry, etc. This is because grief and loss are frequently experienced in the mind and body. Thus, processing the psychological, emotional, and physical components of loss is an intricate and crucial journey for the well-being of those navigating the challenging experiences of grief.

A pivotal place to process the profoundly personal and often isolating experience of grief is through group therapy. In the realm of group therapy, individuals discover a supportive community, fostering a sense of understanding and shared humanity. Sharing and witnessing moments of vulnerability in a group setting creates connections that transcend words. The group becomes a tapestry of diverse experiences, illuminating that grief is not a solitary venture but a universal part of the human condition.

If you are experiencing any of the aforementioned types of grief and loss and seeking help, group therapy may be a helpful avenue. Specifically, we are offering a new Grief and Loss Psychotherapy and Yoga Group at the Catalyst Center. This group aims to create a supportive space for self-discovery and meaning-making of grief and loss experiences. The group has two parts: one process group therapy session and one separate trauma-informed yoga session per week. Both practices of this bi-weekly group focus on fostering a sense of safety and connection, assisting and empowering individuals to navigate through their grief and loss. Participants are encouraged to explore their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in a mindful manner, fostering a holistic approach to creating meaning and working through grief. Ultimately, this group intends to facilitate a transformative grieving process, allowing individuals to reclaim a sense of agency and build a foundation for lasting well-being.

If this style of group piques your interest, consider joining this 8-week process group. The group is limited, meaning only 5-8 spots are available, and no additions will be made once the group begins. The limited, small group size is purposeful, as it promotes a sense of community, agency, trust, and security. All of which are primary facilitators of grief therapeutic processing.

Remember, grief and loss are complicated. The bounds of the timeline and impact of which can be and feel unknown. You do not have to be completely isolated in the confusion of loss.
