Alex Smith, M.S.Ed., M.Phil.Ed, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Warm, compassionate, direct
Alex is an Ivy-League trained therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor with a wide range of experience. After completing her second master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Alex worked in the business world as a consultant and later the Consumer Insights Director of a global strategy and marketing consultancy, designing brand strategies for Fortune 500 companies. During this time, she recognized the need for more executive coaching and wellness support in the corporate world.
After leaving her consulting role, Alex returned to her clinical roots and worked in the world of eating disorders, helping open the first Intensive Treatment Unit for eating disorders, where she treated some of the most behaviorally and medically complex cases in the country. She later became a Clinical Manager and then Clinical Director, overseeing all levels of care including intensive inpatient, inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient. She is also a gifted trainer and supervisor, and was frequently sought after as a trainer and educator for staff nationally. As a clinician who has recovered from an eating disorder herself, she loves showing clients that recovery and a life outside of an eating disorder are possible.
Alex is trained in ACT, DBT, CBT, and Positive Psychology and is well-versed in using both behavioral and psychodynamic modalities to help her clients heal the root of the issue while also providing practical skills. She has a range of experience working not only with eating disorders, but also successfully treating those who struggle with anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, body image concerns, self-esteem, compulsive exercise, and trauma. She also has extensive experience providing individual, family, couples, and group therapy across all levels of care.
In addition to providing clinical services at the Catalyst Center, Alex also provides Executive Coaching for those who are looking to successfully navigate corporate settings, resolve their imposter syndrome, and heal burnout.
Alex’s style is warm but direct and she uses an eclectic approach based on her clients needs. She has the unique ability to help her clients feel seen, understood, and cared for, while also providing open and honest feedback that helps them heal the root of the issue.
