Dr. Sarah Long is a gifted psychologist with 16+ years of experience helping people heal from trauma and recover from eating disorders. Sarah leads the Eating Disorder team at Catalyst, and integrates EMDR and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy into her work with clients. As a former competitive snowboarder and downhill mountain biker, she is acutely aware of the potential for traumatic events experienced by mountain and extreme sports athletes. Sarah is passionate about working with these athletes and their families, and often incorporates EMDR and psychedelics into therapy. She also uses her expertise in Collaborative Therapeutic Assessment to evaluate complex Eating Disorder cases and provide guidance for treatment.
What Clients can Expect
Clients who are looking for someone who can be with them in the midst of major upheaval and challenge tend to resonate well with Sarah. She has a calmness that permeates her work; no matter what is happening in your life or how bad things seem, she can hold space for all the emotions that come up and also provide guidance through the pain. Your healing will go at your pace. Sarah isn’t going to push you faster than you are ready to move, she is going to be right next to you every step of the way encouraging you with her calm, patient presence.
Trauma Healing for Extreme and Mountain Athletes
Before pursuing a career as a psychologist, Sarah was a competitive big mountain snowboarder, snowboard coach, and wildland firefighter on a helicopter rappel crew in Jackson, WY. Given her personal experiences while a member of the extreme sports athlete community, Sarah understands the unique challenges and mental health concerns faced by those in high-adrenaline activities. With a deep understanding of the intense pressures, physical demands, and risk of injury inherent in extreme sports, Sarah offers tailored support to address trauma, grief and loss, and the aftermath of an injury or accident.
Whether you are coping with the aftermath of an accident or injury, dealing with the emotional toll of performance expectations, or navigating personal struggles, Sarah’s dedicated approach integrates evidence-based practices, such as EMDR or psychedelic-assisted therapy, and a compassionate, athlete-centered perspective. She is committed to helping athletes build resilience, process difficult experiences and related emotions, and enhance their overall well-being so they can pursue their passion. Sarah is also passionate about supporting family members as they navigate the grief and loss that result from fatal accidents or life-limiting or career-ending injuries.
Integrative Care for Eating Disorder Recovery
Dr. Sarah Long specializes in working with adults struggling with an eating disorder and co-occurring trauma. She sees her role as walking alongside her clients on the journey towards well-being, meeting them where they are, and helping them take the next step in their journey when they are ready.
Sarah believes sustainable recovery requires collaboration, a focus on root causes, and an individualized approach to care. Through the incorporation of the biopsychosocial-spiritual model, Sarah and her clients determine goals and the most effective treatment approach. Over the years, Sarah has found a combination of the following to be beneficial for most of her clients: Mindful self-compassion, EMDR, Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and spiritual development when appropriate.
Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy: Leading to Profound and Lasting Healing
As a Certified Psychedelic Assisted Therapy Provider, Sarah believes strongly in the healing potential of psychedelics for those suffering from a range of concerns, including trauma, grief and loss, eating disorders, existential crisis, burnout, and compassion fatigue. This includes but is not limited to Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP).
Psychedelic-assisted therapy combines the relational aspects of therapy with neuroscience and often spirituality. An integrative practitioner at heart, Sarah was excited to find a therapy modality that bridges these three worlds. Her personality allows her to be with clients during times of struggle, and she wholeheartedly believes in their resilience and capacity for healing. In addition to being the KAP team lead, Sarah works with clients interested in both psychedelic and low dose KAP, psychedelic integration, and spiritual development.

Collaborative Psychological Assessment: A Map for Healing
Trained in the model of Collaborative Therapeutic Assessment, Sarah takes the time to get to know you deeply, and provides assessment results that are specific to you as a person, and applicable to your questions about yourself. Sarah is particularly interested in Collaborative Psychological Assessment in the treatment of eating disorders when an individual or their team feels stuck or unsure on what direction to go. A specialized eating disorder assessment provides a comprehensive understanding of a person’s struggles, contributing factors to the eating disorder, diagnostic clarity, and potential barriers to full recovery.
Hear from Sarah
For 16+ years, I’ve had the privilege of working with those suffering from eating disorders and trauma in a variety of settings. These experiences have shaped my current approach to the treatment of both eating disorders and trauma. First and foremost, I believe all people can heal and grow through their struggles.
I do not believe that a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach promotes healing or growth. Instead, I treat clients individually. Together, we create a tailored plan to help them move forward towards well-being and recovery. I am careful to consider all aspects of their lives, not just the most apparent symptoms of trauma or an eating disorder. An integrative approach and a supportive environment are critical, and healing is next to impossible without these elements.
Because the relationship between a therapist and their client is an essential part of therapy, trust and safety are crucial. I see you as a whole person and will honor your perspective and goals. Meeting you where you are by listening and exploring your fears is also important. It’s important to me that you don’t feel judged, that you don’t feel pressure to move faster than you can, and that therapy is a place of compassion, trust, and collaboration.
Since I believe every person is inherently resilient, I take a ‘strengths-based approach.’ Rather than focusing solely on perceived failures and slips, it is essential to recognize your strengths. Clients also find that I remain calm (even during times of high intensity), maintain perspective, hold onto hope for you, listen and not judge, and be honest—even if that honesty is difficult to hear.
No matter what, I’m always going to be there alongside you. You can expect I will meet you where you are, not forcing change before you are ready and not giving up when you struggle. I know how hard it is to reach out and build trust with someone new. I see it as a privilege and an honor to be part of the support you deserve.
I look forward to hearing from you!
