In recent years, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)—also referred to as Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT)—has gained recognition as a promising intervention for individuals struggling with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, and even burnout, empathy fatigue, and spiritual disconnection. While many KAP models focus on individual treatment, group Ketamine-Therapy (G-KAP or G-KAT) is emerging as a powerful and unique approach to healing.

Group therapy has long been valued for its ability to foster connection, reduce isolation, and cultivate new perspectives. When combined with ketamine’s ability to expand awareness and deepen self-reflection, the therapeutic benefits of a group setting can be amplified—creating a deeply supportive space for transformation.

The Power of Group Healing

Emotional suffering often involves a sense of disconnection—whether from ourselves, from others, or from a deeper sense of meaning. Group therapy provides a space where participants can realize they are not alone. Many experience relief when they witness others share similar struggles, breaking the illusion of isolation.

Beyond connection, groups foster interpersonal learning. Members reflect on each other’s challenges, offer perspectives that may not have been considered in individual therapy, and co-create a sense of shared trust. When group members align around a common intention and honor each other’s vulnerability, the potential for deep and lasting change increases.

How Ketamine Enhances Group Therapy

Ketamine temporarily shifts consciousness, often inducing a dissociative or expanded state of awareness. Many individuals report:

  • Heightened self-compassion and introspection
  • Reduced defensiveness and fear of judgment
  • A deeper sense of relational or spiritual connection

These effects are particularly powerful in group settings, where participants can share insights in real time and witness the healing journeys of others.

For example, some individuals struggle to open up due to fear of vulnerability. Ketamine can help bypass these barriers, allowing participants to connect more deeply. It also loosens rigid thought patterns, helping people reframe past traumas and see new possibilities for growth.

When this openness and connection is shared among a group, the result can be a deeply corrective emotional experience—one that is difficult to replicate in individual work alone.

  • Screening & Preparation: Participants are carefully screened to ensure G-KAP is a good fit. Several preparatory sessions help members set individual and group intentions before any medicine work begins
  • The Medicine Session:
    • Held in a comfortable setting with mats, blankets, pillows, music, and eye masks
    • Medical staff administer the medicine, and the session lasts two hours
    • Facilitators hold space and provide guidance as needed
    • As the effects begin to fade, participants process the experience either individually or with a facilitator
  • Integration: The following day, participants attend a group integration session to unpack their insights and apply them to daily life. This step is where growth and self-awareness truly solidify.
  • The Full Journey: A complete G-KAP cycle includes four medicine sessions and four integration sessions.

Is Group KAP Right for You?

Group Ketamine Therapy is a powerful and unique healing opportunity, but it’s important to consider whether it aligns with your therapeutic goals.

Group work can be:

🌀 Stirring, enlightening, and deeply validating
🌀 A safe space to push beyond comfort zones and grow through experience
🌀 A chance to witness others’ healing journeys while being seen in your own

However, it also requires a willingness to engage with others and be witnessed in your healing process. Some clients may benefit from a combination of individual and G-KAP to experience the best of both approaches.

If you’re curious whether Group Ketamine Therapy is the right fit for you, our providers would love to connect and answer any questions you may have.
