Compassionate, depth‑oriented therapy for individuals and couples seeking meaningful change

Dr. Dorothy Moon is a compassionate and highly trained psychologist with over 17 years of experience helping individuals and couples heal from trauma, shift long-standard patterns that no longer serve them, and strengthen relationships. As a certified EMDR, Brainspotting, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) clinician, she specializes in guiding clients through deep emotional healing, attachment patterns, and trauma recovery.

Dorothy works with clients navigating recurring conflicts, anxiety, trauma, negative self‑beliefs, cultural identity challenges, and major life transitions. She offers a warm, grounded presence and a deeply attuned approach, creating a space where clients feel safe, understood, and supported as they move toward lasting change.

She provides both in‑person and telehealth therapy, including extended sessions and therapy intensives for clients seeking deeper, more immersive healing in a shorter period of time.

What Clients Can Expect

A peaceful winding path through a lavender field and lush woods, symbolizing growth, healing, and transformation.A space where clarity, connection, and healing begin to take shape

Clients often come to Dorothy feeling overwhelmed by the same painful patterns — the same arguments, fears, and internal battles that keep resurfacing despite their best efforts. Dorothy helps clients slow down and attend to their inner experience — feelings, bodily sensations, thoughts, and beliefs — so they can understand their reactions and reconnect with their intuition as a trustworthy guide. Rather than offering quick fixes, she helps clients see why their behaviors make sense given their history. That understanding creates space for self-compassion, reduces shame, and opens the door to real healing.

Clients working with Dorothy can expect to:

  • Feel seen and understood rather than judged or blamed
  • Learn why old patterns make sense given past experiences and work to change them so they no longer hold them back
  • Develop the ability to respond rather than react in relationships and stressful moments
  • Build practical skills for communication, emotional regulation, and boundary setting
  • Develop deeper self‑understanding and feel those changes show up in their body and relationships
  • Learn to trust their intuition and stop second guessing themselves

Extended Sessions and Therapy Intensives

Sunlight streaming through a serene forest, symbolizing healing, clarity, and transformation during group Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy.Dorothy offers extended 80-minute sessions and half-day or full-day therapy intensives for clients seeking deeper, more focused work. These longer formats create the spacious, uninterrupted time needed to explore what’s happening beneath the surface—without the stop-and-start rhythm of weekly sessions.

With more room to settle in, clients can stay with what’s emerging, explore difficult emotions at a pace that feels right, and work through core wounds without feeling rushed. This kind of spaciousness supports real, embodied change—the kind that shifts not only how you think, but how you feel and relate in daily life.

Therapy intensives are especially helpful for trauma work, EMDR, Brainspotting, and couples therapy, where uninterrupted time allows for deeper emotional processing and meaningful progress in a shorter period.

Trauma Healing with EMDR and Brainspotting

Healing at the root, not just the surface

Trauma can leave clients feeling stuck — caught in old memories, overwhelming emotions, or patterns that don’t make sense logically but feel impossible to change. Many clients come to Dorothy after months or years of talk therapy without the relief they hoped for. Talk‑based approaches bring insight and meaning, which is super helpful, but some forms of trauma are stored in the brain, body and nervous system in ways that can’t be accessed and healed through talking alone. EMDR and Brainspotting are somatic, bottom‑up methods that work directly with those systems to help clients process painful memories and reduce the emotional charge attached to them.

Clients who pursue trauma work with Dorothy often experience:

  • More steadiness and ease in moments that used to feel overwhelming
  • More restful sleep as distressing memories lose their intensity
  • A softer, more compassionate relationship with themselves
  • A calmer, more regulated body that feels safer to inhabit
  • A growing sense of empowerment and the ability to choose what supports their wellbeing
  • A deeper trust in their own inner guidance, relying less on others’ approval and more on what they truly want and need

Dorothy meets each client exactly where they are, guiding them gently and safely at a pace that honors their nervous system and their story.

Couples Counseling with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Repairing disconnection and rebuilding closeness

love couplesDorothy specializes in Emotionally Focused Therapy, a research‑backed approach that helps couples identify and transform the patterns that keep them feeling unseen, unheard, and alone. She works with married, unmarried, bicultural, and interracial couples with deep respect for the unique strengths and challenges each partnership holds.

Couples who work with Dorothy learn to:

  • Slow down reactive cycles and notice the vulnerable emotions driving conflict
  • Communicate needs clearly and receive each other with empathy
  • Repair ruptures and rebuild trust after a conflict through new patterns of connection
  • Create emotional safety that supports intimacy and resilience

Her work helps partners move from feeling stuck to feeling secure, valued, and truly understood.

Discernment Counseling

For couples on the brink of divorce

Through her years of working with couples, Dorothy has seen that not every couple arrives with the same level of clarity or commitment. Many couples come to her wanting to repair their relationship, communicate better, and rebuild closeness. But some arrive unsure — one partner leaning out, the other leaning in, both feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about what comes next.

Dorothy recognizes that traditional couples therapy isn’t always the right fit when partners aren’t on the same page. There is often a gap in support for couples who are questioning the future of their relationship but aren’t ready to make a final decision. Dorothy offers Discernment Counseling, a structured, compassionate space for these couples to slow down, understand how they reached this point, and gain clarity before choosing whether to separate or pursue repair.

Her approach helps each partner feel heard without pressure, reduces confusion and emotional overwhelm, and supports both people in making a thoughtful, informed decision about the future — rather than one made in crisis or exhaustion.

For couples standing at this crossroads, Dorothy provides a steady, nonjudgmental place to pause, reflect, and move forward with greater honesty and intention, whatever path they choose.

Supporting Asian American Adults

Honoring identity, culture, and the complexity of “in‑between” experiences

Dorothy has extensive experience working with Asian American adults navigating the unique emotional and relational challenges shaped by culture, migration, and intergenerational dynamics. Her approach is culturally attuned, validating, and attentive to the particular pressures and loyalties that can shape emotional life.

She supports Asian American clients working through:

  • Intergenerational trauma and family expectations
  • High achievement pressure, perfectionism, and the shame that often follows
  • Difficulty expressing emotions or needs
  • Navigating cultural identity, belonging, and feeling “in‑between”
  • Parent–child conflict shaped by cultural values or immigration history
  • Guilt, obligation, and boundary challenges in collectivist family structures

Hear from Dorothy

Therapy with me is a collaborative journey. I walk alongside clients as they reconnect with their internal wisdom and learn to trust themselves again. I believe emotions hold essential information — and when we befriend our feelings instead of pushing them away, they offer guidance the thinking brain alone can’t access.

I often reference the movie Inside Out because it captures something I see again and again: emotions are messengers, not problems to be fixed. When emotions and thinking are disconnected, we feel overwhelmed or stuck. When they’re brought back into conversation with each other, clarity, flexibility, and self‑trust follow.

Much of our work involves slowing down. Together we notice what’s happening inside — feelings, bodily sensations, thoughts, and beliefs — and start to make sense of emotions, assumptions, reactions, and patterns. Sometimes when we turn inward, we don’t immediately know what we’re experiencing, and that’s okay — it often means we’re exactly where we need to be.

I embrace the unknown as part of the process, and help make space for whatever emerges to be explored and understood. Reconnecting with that felt sense and intuition becomes a trustworthy guide for shifting old patterns. When experiences are seen in context, shame softens and curiosity can take its place — and from there, change feels authentic rather than forced.

I’m especially drawn to therapy intensives: extended 80‑minute sessions, half‑day, and full‑day intensives give us the uninterrupted time needed for deeper work. Clients can settle in, stay with what’s emerging, and move through core wounds without feeling rushed — often making meaningful shifts that might otherwise take much longer.

It’s an honor to be invited into this work. As many clients say, “I can finally be myself and feel confident in who I am, and I can now find my own answers within and trust it.
