“We get traumatized alone but we heal together.”

~ David Grand

WHY EMDR — and why in a group?

Many people have spent months, even years, in talk therapy — gaining insight, understanding what happened, building coping skills. And still something feels unfinished. That’s not a failure of therapy or of you. It’s a signal that the body needs to be part of the healing too. That’s where EMDR comes in.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that works directly with the nervous system to process and integrate traumatic experiences. Rather than talking through what happened repeatedly, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain and body do what it naturally wants to do: heal.

For most people, EMDR trauma processing has only been available through individual therapy. Now there is a more accessible way — EMDR Groups offer the same powerful processing at a fraction of the cost, with the added power of healing alongside others who understand. What makes the EMDR Integrative Group Treatment Protocol (EMDR-IGTP) unique is that you work through your own experience privately — you never have to share anything with the group, but the opportunity is there if you want share your growth at the end of the protocol.

These groups were created to help you settle, release, and reconnect with yourself — and to do it in community.

Let’s heal together.

FIND YOUR EMDR GROUP

Have you had a stressful or traumatic experience that is affecting your daily functioning — your sleep, your reactions, your thinking, your ability to feel present or safe? Is there something you have been through that you just can’t seem to move past? Are you struggling to cope with an ongoing stressor in your life? If any of this resonates, these groups may be the right fit for you.

These groups offer:

  • a structured way to process the impact of living through a stressful or traumatic experience
  • a more accessible way to EMDR reprocessing for those who haven’t been able to pursue weekly individual therapy
  • a chance to steady your own nervous system so you can show up, once again, with presence and purpose

Here at The Catalyst Center, we offer several EMDR Groups to meet the needs of the community.

Overwhelmed by the Weight of the World

The political climate, the news, witnessing violence, injustice, and events that feel out of anyone’s control — it lives in your nervous system. You might feel anxious all the time, find yourself unable to stop checking the news, feel helpless, or exhausted in a way you can’t quite explain. If this sounds familiar, this group was made for you.

For Mental Health Professionals

We see you — navigating the same stressful landscape as your clients. You hold so much and you are so needed right now. There’s a special group just for you so you can tend to your nervous system too.

Medical Trauma

For people whose medical experiences left them shaken, changed, or unable to fully move on — a frightening diagnosis, a surgery that didn’t go as planned, a medical scare, a complicated birth, or any encounter with the medical system that left fear, grief, loss of trust in your body, or a sense that you are not the same person you were before. Whether it was unexpected, overwhelming, or simply too much to process at the time, this group is a space to work through what that experience left behind.

Violence & Community Trauma

For people who have witnessed or survived violence — a school shooting, a mass casualty event, a violent crime, or any experience where you were present for something that should never have happened. This includes people who were there, people who lost someone, and people who were part of a community forever changed by what occurred. The nervous system doesn’t distinguish between being in the room and being close to it. This group is for anyone still carrying what they witnessed or survived.

Physical Trauma & Accidents

For people who have experienced a car accident, a fall, a sports injury, or any experience where your body was abruptly in danger — and who, despite physically healing, notice they are still bracing, hypervigilant, or unable to fully feel safe again. The memory is still live in your nervous system, responding as if the danger hasn’t passed. This group is here to help the brain do what it couldn’t do at the time — process and integrate the experience so it belongs to the past, not the present.

WHAT YOU’LL WALK AWAY WITH

The goal is not to forget what happened but to get to a place where it no longer impacts your daily life. EMDR helps the brain and body do what it couldn’t do at the time, process and integrate the experience so it belongs to the past, not the present.

It happened. And it can finally be filed away as a past event.

Once the event you experienced has been fully processed, you will feel:

  • Relief from the intrusive thoughts, images, sounds, and smells of the event
  • Relief from the anxiety and fear that gripped you
  • Lighter as you shed the guilt and negative self-talk related to the event
  • More relaxed and have more capacity to regulate and return to calm
  • More present
  • Renewed grounding and resilience

UPCOMING EMDR GROUPS

Overwhelmed by the Weight of the World for Mental Health Professionals

Research shows the EMDR-IGTP protocol is most effective when completed 6 times — ideally in an intensive model of 2 to 3 sessions per day over consecutive days. We know that’s not always realistic for busy clinicians with varied schedules, so we designed a more flexible approach. 8 sessions over 4 weeks, you choose 4 to 6 dates that work for you, with the option of attending two sessions on a single day for the intensive experience.

Each group is 75 minutes        $70/group

Why I’m offering EMDR Groups

Licensed Clinical Psychologist  ·  Certified EFT Couples Therapist  ·  EMDR Certified  ·  Certified Brainspotting Therapist

Dorothy Moon is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 17 years of experience helping individuals navigate trauma, relationships, and healing. She is a Certified EMDR Therapist, Certified Brainspotting Therapist, and Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist — with deep roots in attachment theory and somatic awareness.

“So many of the people I work with have spent years in talk therapy. It helped — they understand what happened and learned better coping skills. But something was still missing. Their gut was telling them the work wasn’t finished. And they were right. Talk therapy engages the thinking brain, but trauma lives in other parts of the brain that can’t be accessed through talking. EMDR accesses those parts directly, helping the brain finally process what it couldn’t at the time. I have seen it change people’s lives, and I created these groups so that more people could experience it. I look forward to being in the room with you.”

Dorothy’s approach is warm, curious, and non-pathologizing. She believes that what you’ve been through makes sense — and that your nervous system has been doing its best to protect you. Her job is to help it finally feel safe enough to let go.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need prior EMDR experience?

No prior personal experience with EMDR is necessary. We’ll orient the group to the EMDR-IGTP process, build resources together, and begin deeper work at a guided pace. Familiarity with EMDR is welcome but not required.

Will I have to share my traumatic experience with the group?

No. The EMDR-IGTP protocol is designed so that participants process internally, without sharing the content of their experiences aloud. You can do meaningful, real work here while staying completely private.

What if I get activated during a session?

Before any processing begins, we spend time resourcing and building regulation together. If needed, the individual EMDR protocol is available after the group or at another scheduled time.

How many participants will be there?

Each EMDR Group has space for up to 10 participants.

Where is the group held?

In person groups will be held at The Catalyst Center in Denver, CO — 300 S Jackson St, Suite 430, Denver, CO 80209.

You will receive a Zoom link for virtual groups.
